"Carl Macchietto, P.E. is the Vice President of Product and Management for the North America Structures Division at Valmont Industries, Inc. headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. Macchietto has over 40 years of design and manufacturing experience in the industry of support structures for lighting, traffic, and communication structures. Macchietto received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and completed an advanced course on the management of new products and services for strategic competitive advantage at the Kellogg School of Management.
Macchietto holds numerous patents; some related in the mitigation of vibration of traffic and lighting pole structures and is considered an expert in this field. Macchietto has been an active member in many National and International Committees including the Vice Chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers Athletic Field Lighting Structures Standard (ASCE-AFL); National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP 10-70—Cost-Effective Connection Details for Highway Sign, Luminaire, and Traffic Signal Structures, NCHRP 10-74—Fatigue Loading and Design Methodology for High-Mast Lighting Towers, NCHRP 10-80—New Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires, and Traffic Signals); Transportation Research Board (TRB AFF10—General Structures, Chair of TRB AFF10(1)—Traffic Structures, TRB AFH70—Fabrication and Inspection of Metal Structures); Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA); Contributor to T12—AASHTO Technical Committee for Structural Supports for Signs, Luminaries and Traffic Signals, AASHTO Task Force 13—Standardization of Pole Structures); International Sign Association (ISA); and the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS)."
