Morgan Pattison has a PhD in Materials Science from UCSB with thesis research on GaN based micro-cavity LEDs advised by Professor Shuji Nakamura, Nobel laureate in Physics 2014. Upon graduation in 2006 Morgan went to work for the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory based in Morgantown, WV, managing R&D for the DOE SSL R&D Program. After 2 years with the DOE, Morgan started an LED and lighting focused technology consulting business, SSLS. He has continued to consult to the DOE for over 13 years, acting as Senior Technical Advisor for the last 8 years. He also currently consults to the DOE SSL Program and has projects with the National Park Service and the DOE Marine Energy Program on the topic of wildlife impacts of lighting. Morgan’s overarching research interest is to connect the capabilities of LED lighting technology with new understanding of human, animal, and plant physiological responses to light.
