Powerful Voices, Urgent Issues: Coercive Control in Domestic Relationships

Danielle is a founding attorney at Hawkes Quam, LLC, where she practices exclusively in family law. She is a frequent presenter on family law topics and LGBT rights in Utah, and has developed and led innovative judicial education initiatives, including a year-long family law education series for judges statewide. Danielle has presented to hundreds of Utah judges on LGBT legal issues at the Utah Judicial Institute (2015, 2017, 2020, and 2023) and delivered diversity and well-being presentations for family law commissioners, judges, and legal groups across the state. Danielle has held leadership roles with the Utah State Bar’s Family Law Executive Committee, serving as secretary, vice-chair, and chair, and currently serves on the board of Lawyers Helping Lawyers. She previously served six years on the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Utah, including terms as vice-chair and chair. Danielle is also a longtime volunteer with the courts’ Pro Se Calendars and has co-founded programs supporting low-income and LGBTQ+ communities. A graduate of the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, Danielle was honored as the school’s Outstanding Law Graduate by the National Association of Women Lawyers. During law school, she published in the Journal of Law and Family Studies, competed nationally in moot court, and co-founded Rainbow Law, a free LGBTQ+ legal clinic in Salt Lake City. She also gained experience through fellowships and internships in Washington, D.C., including with the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health and the ACLU of Utah. Before law school, Danielle worked as a senior business analyst in the insurance industry, served as an intern at the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, D.C., and lived for a year in São Paulo, Brazil, as a Rotary exchange student.
