The Husbandry and Veterinary Care of Captive Local Cave Nectar Bats Colony for Use in Bio-Medical Research

Dr. Edgar M. Pena, is the section head of large animal veterinary operations at Singhealth Experimental Medicine Centre (SEMC) and National Large Animal Research Facility (NLARF) in Singapore. SEMC is a department of Office of Research under Singapore Health Services (Singhealth) and Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre. NLARF is a joint collaboration of Singhealth and National University Health System (NUHS). He completed his two ladder degree in Bachelor of Science in Animal Husbandry (BSAH) and Doctor of Veterinary Science in Medicine (DVSM) and currently pursuing his Masters of Veterinary Science in Epidemiology at The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies – University of Edinburgh. Apart from his responsibility in veterinary operation, he is an active member of Singhealth-Duke NUS AMC - Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Duke-NUS ABSL3 Safety Committee and he is also a Subject Expert panel in Singhealth’s Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). He is currently involved in multiple research projects in large animals i.e. non-human primates, rabbits, pig etc. and has co-authored some publications i.e. MRSA clones, Bio-aerosol sampling of airborne respiratory viruses in Swine Facility et. al. Edgar is also the SALAS Chairman of Education Committee.
