Jael Sanchez serves as the Director of Housing at Broadway Housing Communities (BHC), where she provides leadership across housing operations, front desk operations, tenant services, educational advocacy, and community engagement initiatives. Jael joined BHC in 2014 as Project Manager for the lease-up of Sugar Hill Apartments and has since played a key role in advancing BHC’s mission of affordable housing, supportive services, and community-centered development throughout Upper Manhattan. Prior to joining BHC, Jael served on the staff of former New York City Council Member Robert Jackson and previously worked at Harlem Children’s Zone, where she further developed her commitment to community advocacy and youth development. Beyond her professional work, Jael remains deeply engaged in civic and community leadership. She is currently a board member of the 427 Community Land Trust and the West Harlem Preservation Coalition (WHPCO). She previously served as a board member of the Riverstone Senior Center. Jael is also a member of the NYPD 30th Precinct Community Council and an active participant in Manhattan Community Board 9. As of late, Jael is dedicated to launching “The Corner Podcast”, a platform focused on community dialogue, culture, and social issues impacting Harlem and surrounding neighborhoods. Jael studied at Binghamton University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Administration. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Upper Manhattan, Jael continues to be an active advocate for housing stability, cultural preservation, civic engagement, and community empowerment.
