Prior to my entry into the risk management world, I was a bricklayer, welder, superintendent, and eventually safety director until 2012. During my time in the trades, I worked on a myriad of projects and sites ranging from commercial buildings to refineries. In 2012, I made the jump from construction to insurance and have worked with contractors, logistics operations, and large agribusiness operations. Pulling from my experience in the building trades, I try to remember what it was like to be at the sharp end of any job and make recommendations to employers that make sense to protect their workers but don't put undue burden on the workers just because it checks a box. Training is the part of the job I enjoy the most because it allows me the opportunity to provide employees with an understanding of the "WHY".
