Trina Ita is the Deputy Executive Commissioner for Behavioral Health Services at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, where she leads statewide policy and oversees community-based services for Texans with behavioral health conditions. She brings more than 30 years of clinical and human services experience, with expertise in policy development, program implementation, and systems transformation. Ita has held senior leadership roles across Texas health agencies, including the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. At HHSC, she previously served as Associate Commissioner for Mental Health and Substance Use Programs, overseeing the full continuum of care including prevention, treatment, recovery, and disaster behavioral health services. A licensed professional counselor, Ita holds degrees from Tuskegee University and Kean University and is currently a doctoral candidate at the Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies. She is a goal-focused leader committed to building accountable, mission-driven systems that improve lives across Texas.
