4C - Developing Scholar-Practioners as Future Social Work Leaders in East Texas

Jose Carbajal, PhD, LCSW, is an associate professor of Social Work at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he teaches graduate-level courses across the MSW and DSW curricula with emphases on research, policy, advanced generalist practice, and community and organizational practice. He is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Texas and has more than 15 years of clinical practice experience.
Dr. Carbajal has published over 50 scholarly studies and delivered more than 80 professional presentations and training sessions. His research and training focus on psychological trauma, trauma-informed interventions, and clinician education, including work on autism and PTSD. He specializes in advancing evidence-based practice and workforce development for mental health providers.
He was awarded a $200,000 HRSA grant to assess the opioid crisis in East Texas in partnership with the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) of Deep East Texas. At the national level, Dr. Carbajal was appointed to the ASWB/CSWE Licensing and Regulation National Taskforce, where he contributed to the development of the Social Work Competency to Intervene with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities, published in 2018. He has also served on the NASW editorial board for the social work journal and on the Board of Directors for EMDRIA.
