In 2016, Mark was elected by the people of District 40 to represent them in the Oregon House of Representatives. He was elected to the State Senate by the people of District 20 in 2022. Mark and his wife, Cindy, live in Gladstone and have been married for more than 30 years. They have two grown sons, Mark II and Jacob. ​
