Carla Brown is the Executive Director of Community Action of Southern Kentucky, a role she has held since 2021. She leads more than 230 staff members and oversees a $15 million operating budget in support of the agency’s mission to fight poverty. Mrs. Brown began her career with Community Action in 1996 as a Head Start teacher and later served as Education Coordinator and Director of Children’s Services, overseeing Head Start, Early Head Start, Migrant Head Start, and Child Care Services. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Western Kentucky University, a Master of Arts in Education, and a Rank I in Special Education from the University of the Cumberlands. She is a Certified Community Action Professional (2022) and holds multiple leadership and early childhood credentials. Mrs. Brown is an active member of Eleventh Street Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She and her husband, James E. Brown, Jr., have been married for 33 years and are the proud parents of four children and grandparents of five grandchildren.
