Stephanie Diaz is an award-winning actor and puppetry artist based in Chicago. She appeared most recently onstage as Connie Gonzales in Roe at the Goodman Theatre, and online as Teiresias in The Bacchae with Court Theatre. Select acting credits include work at The Gift Theater, Remy Bumppo, Lookingglass Theatre, Milwaukee Rep, Kansas City Rep, Seattle Rep, Victory Gardens, Mixed Blood, First Stage Milwaukee, Shakespeare Santa Cruz and Creede Repertory Theatre. As a puppeteer, she specializes in Bunraku-style tabletop and shadow puppetry, and has designed for various Chicago theatres, most recently Wolf Play at The Gift Theatre. Her own critically-acclaimed, full-length piece, Mariposa Nocturna: A Puppet Triptych, opened the 2015 Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival and enjoyed several successful runs in Chicago, most recently in the Chicago Physical Festival. Her voiceover work in Spanish and English spans radio, TV, video games and audiobooks, notably as Agent Morales in The X-Files: Cold Cases for Audible (opposite Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny), and as Sonia Proud in Season 3 of The Dark Tome, available in January 2021 through Sirius. She has appeared on TV in Easy, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and The Chicago Code. The recipient of numerous artistic grants and residences, she was honored in 2019 with Chicago’s prestigious 3Arts Award for her work in theatre. As a founding member of The Chicago Inclusion Project, she served Chicago’s theatre community as a Casting Director for several years. She is a member of SAG-AFTRA, Actors Equity Association, and a proud Guatemalan-American. She is represented by Grossman and Jack Talent.
