Laura Shybut currently serves as Chief Consultant to the Assembly Utilities and Energy Committee. She was appointed to this position at the end of 2020, after having previously worked in the Committee’s office as a science fellow when she first came to the Capitol. Most recently, Laura served as the Chief of Staff to Senator Jerry Hill. In Senator Hill’s Office, she staffed several pieces of high-profile energy legislation related to PG&E reforms and CPUC oversight. She also served as a consultant for the Subcommittee on Gas, Electric, and Transportation Safety while in Senator Hill’s office, where she held five informational hearings on various topics related to gas and electric safety.
