Theresa E. McCurry, BSc, PMP, has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) since 2018. Accountable to the Board of Directors, she leads all aspects of the organization and is responsible for delivering its public-interest mandate under the Professional Governance Act and the International Credentials Recognition Act.
An experienced executive and regulator, Theresa has led ASTTBC through a profound transformation, from a member-focused association to a modern, principles-based professional regulator. Under her leadership, the organization strengthened statutory compliance, governance, financial stewardship, and operational maturity, while advancing equity, transparency, and public trust. She negotiated a landmark scope of practice framework with the Government of British Columbia and Engineers & Geoscientists BC, the first of its kind globally, and represented Canada within the International Engineering Alliance.
Over a 30+ year career, Theresa has held senior leadership roles across science-based, highly regulated, and public-interest environments in both the public and private sectors. Her experience spans professional regulation, healthcare, life sciences, engineering, and international consultancy. Prior to ASTTBC, she served as Senior Director and Chief Communications Officer with the Provincial Health Services Authority, where she built a new department, led crisis and reputation management across provincial health agencies, and directed a youth mental health initiative recognized with the Premier’s Award.
Earlier in her career, Theresa held executive roles in the life sciences sector, including President & CEO of Life Sciences British Columbia, Vice President roles with Resverlogix and Hill & Knowlton, and founder of her own consultancy. Across these roles, she has advised governments, boards, multinational corporations, and research institutions, including contributing to work at the U.S. Presidential level. She has also served on numerous boards and advisory bodies nationally and internationally.
Theresa’s leadership has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Premier’s Award, BIOTECanada’s Industry Leadership Award, Silver Sabre Award, and Business in Vancouver’s Top 40 Under 40. She continues to volunteer her expertise with non-profit and public-interest organizations in British Columbia, across Canada, and internationally.
