Darin Detwiler is an assistant teaching professor and the director of the Master of Science in the Regulatory Affairs of Food and Food Industries program. An expert in food regulatory affairs, food policy, and food governance, he brings over 20 years of experience in food policy, including his service as a United States Department of Agriculture regulatory policy advisor and a senior policy advisor for the national nonprofit STOP Foodborne Illness, and his being called upon often by the United States Food and Drug Administration to serve on advisory panels.
Dr. Detwiler served previously as a part-time faculty member and academic consultant in the program, updating the curriculum in line with the changing regulatory environment. His research in state legislation alignment with federal food policy, as well as his experience with industry and regulatory stakeholders, has propelled him into many speaking engagements across the country and abroad.
He is a former U.S. Navy submarine nuclear mechanical engineer and high school teacher who received several awards, including Washington State’s Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching History.
