In 2010 Efi Papafragkou joined the Molecular Virology Team at the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition to provide expertise in developing assays and procedures for detection and control of foodborne viruses in food and environmental samples. She also assists as a subject matter expert within the agency in related projects involving foodborne outbreak investigation and response, risk analysis, and hand hygiene.
She is an invited member of the International Standard Organization‘s Microbiology technical committee on foodborne viruses and has served as the chair of the International Association of Food Protection Professional Development group of viral and parasitic disease.
She has a Ph.D. in Food Microbiology from North Carolina State University and M.Sc. in Food Science from University of Delaware.
