Sessions
Hypertext, Markup, and Scholarly Technology
4:25 PM - 5:05 PM Thu
Steve got his start in hypertext by joining the FRESS project in 1978 as a sophomore at Brown, and was the last director before support was officially (though not quite entirely) stopped a few years later. He and David Durand have demo'd FRESS on several occasions, including ACM Hypertext conferences. After moving to Linguistics and finishing his Ph.D., he co-founded EBT and was heavily involved in the standards world, working on the Text Encoding Initiative, XML, XPath, XLink, Open eBook, and others. He has written 2 books, a few dozen articles, and a dozen patents in electronic document theory and systems, computational linguistics, and related areas.
