Session 1.1: Idaho Power's Journey to an Improved Safety Culture

Vern Porter assumed the role of Vice President of Transmission and Distribution Engineering and Construction and Chief Safety Officer, for Idaho Power on March 1, 2017. Prior to this appointment, he worked as Vice President of Customer Operations of Idaho Power since April 2015.
In December 2013, Porter was appointed to lead a company-wide safety initiative as to transform the safety culture and work with all business units to improve safety for employees and the public.
Porter joined Idaho Power in 1989 after starting his career in 1986 with Pacific Gas and Electric Company. In October 2009, Porter was named VP of Delivery Engineering and Construction. Porter has held a variety of other positions within the company, including: High voltage transmission engineer; System planner; Technical operations engineer; Energy trader; Senior manager of Grid Operations; Senior manager of Customer Service; and General manager of Power Production.
Porter is a graduate of Brigham Young University, earning his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1985 and Master of Science in 1986. He also received his Executive Master of Business Administration from Boise State University in 2013.
Porter serves on the Idaho Technology Council Board of Trustees and on the Board of Directors for the Boy Scouts of America Ore-Ida Council.
