Shedding Light on Injustice: Black Trans Women and the Impacts of the Criminal Justice System
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Fri
Transcending Women is a grassroots, community rooted organization founded to empower women who have been historically marginalized by systems of oppression including incarceration, poverty, and gender based violence. Our mission is to provide tools, resources, and support that allow women to live authentically, lead boldly, and advocate for systemic change. We focus on serving Black and Brown transgender women, formerly incarcerated women, and women navigating reentry and recovery.
Transcending Women works through a healing justice framework, blending direct services with advocacy. Our programs include legal navigation support, community education, leadership development, and policy engagement. We believe in the power of lived experience and center the voices of those most impacted in everything we do.
Beloved Hands, one of our signature initiatives, was born out of the recognition that healing and stability begin with compassion, care, and consistent support. Beloved Hands provides holistic reentry and wellness support for transgender women and other women returning from incarceration. Through this program, participants receive assistance with housing, identification and name changes, healthcare access (including HIV prevention and treatment), mental health support, and legal advocacy.
Beloved Hands is built on community and the idea that no one should walk their journey alone. We prioritize trust building, cultural competency, and the dignity of every participant. Our vision is to see women not only survive but thrive, reclaiming their narratives and futures.
Together, Transcending Women and Beloved Hands are creating safer and more just pathways for women who have long been excluded from traditional systems of care. We are reshaping what justice and liberation look like through each life, each voice, and every act of love.
