Melany Williams is currently a Director, Subject Matter Expert in the Mission Development and Organization Engagement, Laboratory Accreditation at Joint Commission. In this role, she utilizes her extensive experience in the clinical laboratory setting to provide guidance and counsel to organizations seeking accreditation, to advance the common mission of improving healthcare quality and patient safety, and to understand the value of Joint Commission’s products and services. Earlier, she served as a Joint Commission Laboratory Surveyor where she surveyed under the standards of the Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Laboratory and Point-of-Care to help organizations identify risks and opportunities for process improvement while ensuring that patients experienced safe, high-quality healthcare. Ms. Williams has 30 years of clinical laboratory and leadership experience and began her career as a microbiologist moving into all areas of the laboratory over the next thirty years as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. Her leadership experience included Director, Laboratory Services where she managed the hospital laboratory with a focus on improving transfusion practices, managing a critical access hospital laboratory, and serving various laboratories as an independent Technical Consultant to ensure compliance with federal regulations. She is certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Ms. Williams earned a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma.
