Stubborn LARC Removals: When IUD and Implant Removals Are Not So Simple

Melissa C. Matulich, MD, MAS (she/her) is an Associate Professor within the Complex Family Planning (CFP) Division in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). She completed her general OBGYN Residency at Northwestern University and her CFP Fellowship at UC Davis. Dr. Matulich practices full scope OBGYN and focuses on compassionate and inclusive reproductive health care. She is one of the primary physicians that staffs the UC Davis Difficult Implant Removal clinic within the Centers of Excellence for Nexplanon network. Within this clinic she trains current CFP fellows to remove these implants independently in the office. From this clinic she has published the UC Davis experience and has assisted in other related publications. She has received funding from Organon and the Society of Family Planning for other contraception and abortion related research. She also carries several educational roles, including Co-Director of the UC Davis OBGYN Ryan Program and Co-Director of one of the pre-clerkship courses for the UC Davis School of Medicine.
