Cameron Simmons is a two-time University of Denver graduate and currently serves as an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at his alma mater. Originally from Colorado Springs, CO, Cameron has made a name for himself in the Denver community throughout his undergraduate and master’s work. As a Daniels Fund Scholar and Colorado State Youth of the Year for the Boys and Girls Club of America, Cameron earned his Bachelors of Arts in Public Policy and Communications with a minor in Leadership as well as a Master of Science in Management.
During his tenure at DU, Cameron has been very active in the Black Student Alliance, the Pioneer Prep Leadership Institute, the Black Male Initiative Summit, the Diversity Ambassador Program, and his fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Not only was he able to take advantage of the many opportunities and clubs on campus, but was also able to study abroad for five months during his junior year in Ghana, West Africa.
As an admission counselor, Cameron serves on the diversity and access team where he is able to work with communities of color as well as other underrepresented groups to provide access events and guidance on the college journey. He currently serves as the college liaison for the Colorado Boys and Girls Club, Daniels Fund, DU Black Male Initiative and Black Women LEAD, and Colorado Gear Up.
Recently, Cameron was recognized by the Colorado Council on High School/ College Relations for his service to the Council. This award speaks very highly of the young man he is and the work he does for the organizations he aligns with. Cameron ultimately seeks to inspire the next generation of leaders and help to advance the plight of students of color in higher education.
