Dr. Ansgar Gerlicher is a tenured professor at Stuttgart Media University, where he has been leading research and teaching in mobile applications, user experience design, and digital innovation since 2010. With a strong focus on automotive applications, Dr. Gerlicher founded the research institute Responsive Media Experience and currently directs the Institute for Mobility and Digital Innovation. His work primarily explores the intersection of user experience and autonomous driving, including pioneering projects in XR technologies for automotive use cases.
Dr. Gerlicher has an extensive international background, having served as a visiting professor at leading institutions such as RMIT University in Melbourne, Metropolia University in Helsinki, HvA Amsterdam, Jönköping University and Södertörn University in Sweden. His research has been instrumental in shaping the future of autonomous vehicles, particularly through his significant involvement in high-profile, publicly funded projects like FlexCAR (

Currently, he serves as the Deputy Director of the Institute for Applied Research (IAF) and leads the Seamless Interaction in Immersive Environments (STRIVE) research lighthouse, which focuses on innovative interactions in immersive environments.
In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Gerlicher is a co-founder of several technology startups and actively contributes to industry standards through his involvement in e.g. the „Service Oriented Vehicle Diagnostics“ (SOVD) ASAM / ISO 17978 standard and within the W3C, particularly in the development of Automotive Privacy Principles."
