Nik Sterbentz is Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) District 5’s GIS Analyst, located in Pocatello, Idaho. He attended Idaho State University, graduating with a GIS-based master’s degree and post-baccalaureate certificate in Geotechnology. Recently he received ITD’s 2020 Excellence in Transportation – Professional of the Year award and is project manager on the Statewide Asset Attribute Inventory (SWAAI) project, as well as playing a key role in several other high-profile GIS projects. Over the past eight years with ITD, Nik has worked with the excellent team of professionals in his district and across the state on a wide variety of time-saving, innovative approaches to challenges and issues in the organization’s workflows. He represents ITD on the national Rights-of-Way As Habitat Working Group and participates in research on emerging technology and concepts, including integrated vegetation management and LiDAR accuracy comparison. Nik lives in Pocatello with his wife, Jennifer, and his two year old daughter, Emily.
