Justice-Oriented Contraceptive Research: Examples and Opportunities

Dr. Rice is a Rollins Assistant Professor in Behavioral, Social and Health Education Sciences at the Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH) at Emory University, and the Director and Principal Investigator of the Center for Reproductive Health Research in the Southeast (RISE). Dr. Rice is committed to the pursuit of greater equity in sexual and reproductive health outcomes, care delivery, and scholarship. Her research investigates social and systems processes (e.g., stigma, discrimination, policy) and their consequences and opportunities for health and well-being, particularly in family planning, HIV prevention, and perinatal health settings. Dr. Rice was awarded the Outstanding Young Professional Award by the APHA Sexual and Reproductive Health Section in 2019, and the inaugural Faculty DEI Leadership Award from the Emory RSPH this year. Dr. Rice completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Institute of Technology, a Master of Public Health degree in Health Policy and Management at Emory, and a Doctor of Public Health degree in Health Care Organization and Policy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed HRSA Maternal and Child Health Center of Excellence -funded Doctoral Traineeship, and an AHRQ T32-funded Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Services, Outcomes and Effectiveness Research.
