Daniel Hayes is a Senior Research Fellow within the Social Biobehavioural Research Group at UCL (www.tinyurl.com/UCL-SBRG). Daniel studied his PhD at UCL and has completed postdoctoral work at both Kings College London and UCL. His research focuses on how we can enhance and improve child and youth mental health by drawing on social, cultural and community support (e.g. community engagement, arts & cultural activities and the role of schools in supporting mental health), as well as how these types of support can be integrated into mental health services (e.g. social prescribing). Daniel is currently Principal Investigator for the following research programmes: • INACT (INcreasing Adolescent social and Community support): A national programme of work which aims to understand how schools and local community resources can work together to improve outcomes for pupils • SP:ACE (Social Prescribing: Advancing Child and youth Evidence, policy and practice) which is catalysing international policy, practice and research for social prescribing and youth mental health. • YES (Youth Sector Provision Enhancing Social Prescribing) which is investigating the impact of youth sector provision on young people’s mental health. Daniel also manages the day to day running of Wellbeing While Waiting a three year national programme of work which is exploring how social prescribing can help young people waiting for NHS mental health support. He is also a collaborator on ORIGIN, led by the University of Oxford, which is exploring online arts and culture for young people’s mental health. Daniel has received over £2 million in research funding as Principal, Co-Principal and Co-Investigator and has delivered keynotes internationally.
