A1-Participatory Arts Engagement: How QAGOMA’s Art and Dementia Program Supports People to Flourish
3:30 PM - 5:00 PM Tue
Debbie Brittain is a Churchill Fellow and Senior Program Officer, Arts and Health at QAGOMA. She leads the Gallery’s award-winning Art and Dementia program which she developed in 2014. Her Churchill Fellowship examined international best-practice museum programs supporting dementia wellbeing. Debbie recently co-designed an innovative museum wellbeing program for veterans and co-led 2025 Creative Brain Week Australia, which celebrates how brain science and creativity collide to seed new ideas in wellbeing across the life cycle. Debbie’s commitment to supporting people to live well with dementia and harnessing museums as spaces for human connection and flourishing stems from her Bachelor of Dementia Care studies at the University of Tasmania, where she focused on non-pharmacological approaches and contemporary dementia care practices.
