Opening Keynote Session 1 - Incorporating Cyber Informed Engineering design standards for SCADA projects
8:50 AM - 9:25 AM Tue
I am currently the Utilities Superintendent responsible for managing the electrical, control and SCADA automation section with the Department of Utilities for the City of Sacramento. The department has two surface water filter plants with a combined capacity of 170 MGD. There are also 14 distribution reservoirs, and 27 potable wells on the water side. In addition, we also maintain over 180 pump and lift stations on the wastewater side of the department. In the past five years we have completed several major upgrades to our SCADA system. Cyber security being one of the main driving factors considered from our core network to our HMI software, which covers nearly 150,000 data points. Prior to coming to the City, I was with Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District at the wastewater treatment plant with design capacity of 400 MGD. I was responsible at SRCSD for maintaining electrical distribution networks, as well as control and automation equipment. I began working in the industrial controls and automation industry in 1986, with the electrical department for POMA of America wiring and programming ski lifts and tramways across the U.S. Since that time, I have always enjoyed the challenge of working in an industry that is constantly advancing with new technologies.
