Mr Sopheak Meas is the Stakeholder Engagement Specialist and Interim Press Officer at the Mekong River Commission Secretariat. He manages the organization’s stakeholder engagement, public relations and press related activities.
Mr Meas has written hundreds of news stories about the Mekong and fostered reliable media relations that have seen more than 4,000 articles published on the MRC over the last five years. These stories have appeared in both local and international media outlets, including in The New York Times, Reuters, Channel News Asia, Nikkei Asia, the South China Morning Post and several other outlets. He has also ghostwritten a dozen of opinion editorials to communicate MRC work.
Mr Meas has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters to his name in Routledge; Springer; Sustainability; Journal of AIDS and HIV Research; Explorations; Lakes & Reservoirs: Science, Policy and Management for Sustainable Use; and Mekong Connect. His research interest lies in water data sharing, water governance and human geography.
He holds a Bachelor of Education from Cambodia’s renowned Institute of Foreign Languages. His two graduate degrees are in Education from the University of Hong Kong, and Journalism and Communication from Australia’s University of New South Wales. All of them were under different government scholarships.
