Michelle Thompson-Janis, MSW, DSW student, is the Director of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas Department of Social Services, bringing dedicated leadership to her community's social support systems. In addition to her role as Director, she serves as the Senior Peacemaker in the Tribal Peacemaker Court and as the Probation Officer for the Alabama-Coushatta Tribal Court. Ms. Thompson-Janis is a member of the Housing Board of Commissioners for the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe, contributing to the oversight and development of community housing initiatives, and is also a commissioner of the Supreme Court of Texas Permanent Judicial Commission for Children, Youth, and Families. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Kansas. She is pursuing a Doctorate in Social Work at Stephen F. Austin State University, where her studies focus on culturally informed approaches to social work within Indigenous communities.
