Established in 1986, Great Plains Tribal Health serves and represents 18 tribal nations and communities across South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa. The organization works to strengthen tribal sovereignty and improve the health of American Indian people through public health leadership, advocacy, and tribally driven partnerships. Great Plains Tribal Health serves as a liaison between Great Plains tribes and federal partners within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, including the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service. This work focuses on reducing public health disparities, improving access to care, and supporting long term wellness for relatives and families. Community Health The organization provides public health support, health care advocacy, and technical assistance to tribal nations. Efforts include supporting tribal consultation with federal agencies, improving the distribution of health resources, and advancing tribal priorities at state, regional, and national levels. Great Plains Tribal Health also provides policy analysis and supports tribal leaders in Congressional and Executive Branch advocacy related to Indian health care. Oyate Health Center Great Plains Tribal Health operates Oyate Health Center, a tribally governed health system in Rapid City providing comprehensive, culturally grounded care to relatives across the region. The organization also houses the Great Plains Tribal Epidemiology Center, which provides data, surveillance, and public health analysis to support tribal
