Mission Possible 2022: Ignite the Fire
Join us in-person at our 25th Annual Mission Possible event in Lufkin, TX.
June 28, 2022 - August 14, 2022

Join your peers to IGNITE THE FIRE with Mission Possible on Wednesday, June 29 at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center in Lufkin, Texas. This all-day conference will offer continuing education contact hours for counselors, social workers, LMFTs, nurses, certified case managers, and activity professionals. 
Mental Health professionals: This program has applied for 6.75 hours of continuing education credit including 3 ethics hours for Social Workers, LPCs, and LMFTs.
Nurses: This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved for 6.5 hours by Louisiana State Nurses Association - Approver, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Activity Professionals: This activity has been approved for 6.75 hours by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals. 

Conference Objectives:

  • Participants will learn strategies to effectively combat burnout, renew empathy, and improve personal wellness.
  • Participants will explore techniques for serving culturally diverse populations and for providing trauma-informed care services
  • Participants will identify and build partnerships with community agencies and gain resources to help improve service delivery.

Tremendous gains have been made in understanding the science and basic biology underlying Alzheimer's and other dementias. These advances are leading to great strides in strategies for prevention, detection, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions.
Mindfulness can be an elusive concept for many mental health professionals. We have plenty of guided scripts for mindfulness, but we are often taught the script without learning the foundational components.

Have you ever felt on the brink of feeling like the clients that your serve? Research has shown that mental health workers are vulnerable to fatigue and burnout. So many may ask "How do I combat these feelings?"
Exploring what the data reveals concerning current substance use trends as well as possible upcoming trends. An in-depth examination of what youth are experimenting with and how substances (legal & illegal) are impacting our area.
This presentation will help the attendees understand basic DEI principles, learn ways to explore and uncover self-biases and learn to engage better with clients and coworkers with a multicultural mindset.
This presentation will help improve the personal wellness of individuals with Alzheimer's and their caregivers and provide new techniques for delivering patient care services.

Phyllis Grandgeorge, M.Ed., LPC, is the Executive Director of the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas and has led the organization for 32 years.

Melanie Taylor

Melanie Taylor has worked at Burke since 1986. She served as the Chief Administrative Officer from 2003 to 2018, and in 2018 was appointed to the position of Deputy CEO. In June 2019, Ms. Taylor assumed the role of CEO.

Samantha Williams, LMSW

Samantha Williams is a licensed master social worker and conflict mediator. She has presented on several different topics to include mental health, military, Veteran Treatment Courts, substance use and mindfulness techniques.

Kim Simmons

Kim Simmons, LCDC, ACPS, CPM is the Director of Prevention for the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas and has been a leader for the organization for 28 years.

Kim Bartel

Kim Bartel is the Data Coordinator for the Region 5 Prevention Resource Center of the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas.
