Attendees to this session will receive eight hours of Professional Development, six hours of which will be Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education Credits. This session will address methods for attaining success during virtual learning as well as in the regular classroom setting.
The credits have not been preapproved by the Colorado Department of Education. The credits meet the CDE criterion as follows:
5.09 Quality Standard 1:
Educators are knowledgeable about CLD populations. 2.0 hours
5.09(1) Element A: Educators are knowledgeable in, understand and apply major theories to support academic success.
Theory into Practice: connecting theory into practice—-exploring root cause analysis to impact the planning process, setting academic and language growth goals and evaluating intended outcomes.
5.09(2) Element B: Educators are
knowledgeable in, understand and able to use progress monitoring with formative
and summative assessments-CLD process for monitoring.

5.10 Quality Standard II:
Educators should be knowledgeable in first and second language acquisition. 2.

5.10(2) Element B: Educators are knowledgeable of, understand and apply major theories, concepts and research related to culture, diversity, and equity in order to support academic success.
We will explore bias and equity
in non-threatening interactive ways through self-reflective exercises that can
be duplicated the next day!
5.11 Quality Standard III:
Educators should understand literacy development for CLD students- 1.5 hour
5.11(1) Element A: Educators should be knowledgeable in, understand, and apply major theories related to literacy development for CLD students.
The EL in a dual language setting and the ESL setting—-application of theory, examples of how to implement and time to practice.

Monea Beene is a transformational leader and educator. She has taught EL educators in curriculum writing for Reading, Writing and Middle School Intervention Courses.
Maritza Urquia is a Dual Language Development Specialist in one of the largest urban districts in the Houston, Texas area.
Wise has been an anti-racism activist for 30 years. He has authored nine books including his highly acclaimed memoir, White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son. His newest book, Dispatches from the Race War, will be out in December 2020.
