Due to health concerns surrounding the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, the Spring Education Conference has been cancelled.  Stay tuned for dates in 2021.

Join us for the 2020 Annual Meeting....

The Spring meeting begins with the Education Conference on Saturday, October 3rd and is open to our instructors, instructional staff and interested guests.

Learn about cognitive and social emotional factors that affect resilience in students with dyslexia.  During the Education Conference on Saturday, October 3rd,you will:

  • Increase your understanding of risk factors and protective factors that affect your students' learning
  • Hear about new resources for early identification and screening (e.g., APPRISE, a new screening app)
  • Learn evidence-based strategies to support successful emotion regulation in children . . . and MUCH MORE

The Education Conference Keynote speakers are Dr. Fumiko Hoeft and Dr. Kate Monahan.  These presenters, two exemplary, widely-recognized, and respected speakers, are currently researching these topics from different sides of the same coin.  Few children learn to read and write without instruction.  Most need explicit systematic instruction.  The complexity involved in learning to read and write includes the interaction of protective factors, risk factors, cognitive factors, and social emotional factors.  All of these have an impact on development of resilience—especially for students with dyslexia.

The Instructors/Instructional Staff meeting is scheduled from 8 am Saturday through noon on Sunday. This meeting provides an opportunity for Slingerland instructors and teachers to deep dive into uniformity of practice, new training procedures, new classes, and ways to become a local ambassador for the Institute. The tentative agenda can be found under the "Agenda" link on this site.

NEW - Meeting Handbook online only!  Please bring your laptops/tablets/mobile devices in order to participate in our interactive sessions and access the meeting presentations as the meeting handbook will only be available via the Event Guide app.  A link to download the "Guide App" is after the Agenda listing below and will also be included in the registration confirmation email.
