The presentation will discuss new methods for re-evaluating conventional logs from low resistivity formations in mature fields. The techniques involve low resolution modelling of the formation component layers and the identification of resistivity anisotropy in neighboring wells of different deviation angles through the same formation.

Using these techniques it can be possible to distinguish between laminated and non-laminated formations and to derive vertical and horizontal resistivity curves from conventional logs. Using these logs either the laminated shaly sand analysis can be applied or, in complex formations, saturations can be derived using separate saturation height functions for each different rock type. Theoretical resistivity logs are also calculated to verify the modelling process.

These techniques have been successfully applied in various formations in the Asia Pacific region and examples will be presented which demonstrate the different modelling processes available.
