Emergency Disaster Preparedness & Response Training for Volunteers

This event is being offered for the benefit of Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) volunteers from Wednesday, March 8th to Saturday, March 11th at our Camp Mihaska located in Bourbon, Missouri.

Volunteers will be offered a variety of workshops and courses to increase their level of knowledge and preparedness for disaster response and recovery operations. Individuals may chose to participate in one or all four days of training and is open to those who are brand new disaster response volunteers, experienced EDS responders, or those associated with Salvation Army Service Extension Units and other partner disaster response agencies/organizations. EDS volunteers from other divisions across The Salvation Army Central Territory are also invited to register and participate. Lodging and meals are offered at the venue.

This FEMA course provides a practical approach for participants to develop rapidly collaborative public, private, and non-government solutions to restore pre-existing supply chains providing critical supplies to survivors during disasters.
This two-day course attempts to prepare Emotional & Spiritual Care (ESC) Chaplains for their unique role in the fundamental principles of Spiritual & Psychological First Aid. REFER to "The Summit Catalog" for information & prerequisites.

This is the Second Day /Part 2 of the Logistics & Supply Chain Resilience in Disasters Course. You MUST be registered to participate in the previous day's session. In order to receive certification for this course you must attend both days.

This session is actually TWO Courses offered one after the other. Both are required as part of the Emergency Response Chaplaincy Certification Program. REFER to the accompanying descriptions for course specifics.
This workshop will introduce EDS volunteers on how to serve in a supervisory support capacity for sandbagging operations during a flood.
This course delivers consistent food safety training to volunteers. This ensures the same food safety principles are delivered each and every time either on a canteen or a fixed kitchen site. Re-certification is required every three years.

The Disaster Food Service & Canteen Operations course is the starting point for any disaster worker who wishes to be a part of mass feeding operations.
This course is designed to train disaster workers and social workers to serve as disaster caseworkers during a disaster relief operation.
This two-day course attempts to prepare ESC Chaplains for their unique role in the fundamental principles of Emotional & Spiritual Care. REFER to "The Summit Catalog" for information & prerequisites.
Participants will learn how to interact with other members of the Incident Management Team and be introduced to the three major responsibilities of the F&A function (disaster worker management, statistics, and finances).
Participants in this course will take away a general understanding to The Salvation Army Incident Command System (ICS) and how it is used .
This advanced course is designed for experienced disaster workers who will be serving in the Logistics section during a Salvation Army disaster relief operation or as a Logistics Chief on an Incident Management Team (IMT).

This is the Second Day /Part 2 of the Emotional & Spiritual Care in Disaster Operations Course. You MUST be registered for the previous day's session. In order to receive certification for this course you must attend both days.
(1st Time Offered - Limited to 30 Individuals) This is an awareness-level course that addresses the current science of the causes of floods, flood forecasting, risk assessment, & best practices for preparation & mitigation for flooding events.
This course has been developed to provide advanced level training for those interested in serving in the Salvation Army's Planning Section within the Incident Command System.
This course provides an overview of the Liaison Officer's role as a representative of The Salvation Army working with non-government agencies, and state and federal disaster partners.
This advanced course is designed for experienced disaster workers and will examine the role and responsibilities of the Safety Officer on a Salvation Army Incident Management Team (IMT).

Node RED – Invented by IBM, is a programming tool for wiring appliances together like your washer to your dryer & the TV to the stereo. The amateur radio community has taken Node Red one step further & started to connect ham radio devices.

This session will be an antenna theory workshop with the goal for the participant to feel comfortable testing the antenna they will be building after lunch. Hands on tools practical to include several Antenna Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzer, Watt Meter, etc.

Each registered participant will receive a kit to construct an End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) 40M antenna to take home.
