WELCOME TO THE 2019 HIGHWAY SAFETY SUMMIT!

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) Office of Highway Safety is proud to present the 2019 Highway Safety Summit in Lewiston, Idaho.  The Summit will provide traffic safety professionals and advocates with innovative, results-oriented solutions to help save lives and reduce serious injuries from motor vehicle crashes.

The Summit is designed to foster discussion and interaction between presenters and participants on a variety of topics through seminars and workshops.  This year, the Highway Safety Summit has three amazing Keynote Speakers - Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, Brody Young and Jared Olson!

  • Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, M.Ed., is a former Army Ranger and paratrooper.  He taught psychology at West Point and is formerly a professor and chair of the department of military science at Arkansas State University. He is the author of On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society, which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction.

  • Brody Young will have you on the edge of his seat as he recounts the events of November 19, 2010.  Shot nine times: once in the upper left arm, three times in the back, once between the groin and femoral artery, once in his hip, once in his buttocks, once in the right femur, and once in his right arm below the elbow. "My story isn’t about getting hit by 9 rounds. It’s about what I've learned from surviving," says Young. "Never give up. Never for a moment when I was lying there in the dirt in the dark did I think I was going to die. If you're still breathing, you can make it."
Brody's experience can bring hope and reflection. 9 Miracles will motivate and hopefully inspire you for years to come.

  • Jared Olson is one of the longest serving Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutors (TSRP) in the country. For years, Jared has served Idaho through his commitment to traffic safety. He has furthered the field through his work with both local and national partners to make all our roads safer. Jared works in close collaboration with law enforcement officers across Idaho and receives support from the National Highway Safety Association (NHTSA). Mr. Olson will answer some of those difficult questions concerning cases involving impaired driving and how law enforcement officials can be more successful.

In addition to these extraordinary Keynotes, the Summit has several workshop presentations from a variety of experts on topics from effective social media strategies to fentanyl drug safety.  This Summit has something for everyone and best of all - it's FREE to attend thanks to ITD's Office of Highway Safety!  Register today to save your spot at the 2019 Highway Safety Summit in Lewiston, Idaho.
