Lost Dog Wash to Adero Canyon 11.5 Miles
Hike 3 of 4 in the Are You Ready Series
March 30, 2025  ·  Scottsdale, AZ
6:30 AM - 11:30 AM (MT)
This 3rd hike in the series is the most difficult with the highest elevation gain (similar in gain to the walk out of Portomarin or from Pamplona to Alto de Perdon on the Camino Frances). This series provides an opportunity to walk 10+ miles back-to-back with or without their Camino gear and with the support of fellow pilgrims.
DISTANCE: 11.5 MILES MODERATE/DIFFICULT (1400 ft elevation gain)
This is an out & back hike. We will begin on the Lost Dog Wash Trailhead to Sunrise Trail where pilgrims will climb to the hitching post (approx 2.7 miles with 1100 ft of elevation gain) on the saddle. From the saddle we will join the Andrews-Kinsey trail for a trek down to the Adero Canyon Trailhead in Fountain Hills. We will stop for a restroom break, a snack (maybe even second breakfast if there are leftovers from the Shell Ceremony), cool down by wetting any hats/shirts/buffs/hair and then we will head back the way we came. Andrews-Kinsey trail is a steady climb of 325 ft elevation gain over ~3 miles with some of the most unique geology (aka rocks) in the area. From the hitching post we will descend back to Lost Dog Wash Trailhead.
NOTE: If we are blessed with cool weather or clouds, we may begin the walk 30-60 min later and notify registrants the day prior.

Call or text your hike leader Pruitt @ 480-243-5326 if you are unable to make it or are running late.

No dogs allowed due to chapter liability.

We will share the trail with other hikers and mountain bikers so despite our engaging conversations we will be aware of our surroundings and courteous by stepping off the trail or walking single file when necessary.

Reminders: Our chapter activities are led by volunteers. Donativo contributions (cash only) are greatly appreciated and are used to support future activities. Look for the orange donativo jar by the signup at the beginning of each hike.

We always gather in the spirit of the Camino; therefore the hike leader will maintain awareness of the pace of the group, and will stop periodically at trail intersections to allow all participants to catch up. Hikers/walkers are differently abled and will not finish at the same time. There will be a sweep for larger groups and no hiker will be abandoned. Please review the trail description before signing up to be sure the hike is right for you and your abilities.
