Techniques for Teaching Reading Skills - Spring 2023: Slingerland Short Class

Appropriate for all teaching levels, this class focuses on teaching techniques and background knowledge related to the Slingerland® Approach.  Techniques for teaching the skills of decoding, reading in meaningful phrases, vocabulary, reading with comprehension, and higher-level critical thinking skills are included. This 20-hour class will provide rationales, demonstration, and practice of teaching techniques for phonics, decoding, reading in meaningful phrases, and reading with comprehension

The online class is currently only available as an evening offering in Pacific Time. The class will be held as daily three-hour Zoom sessions. Dates of Class are May 1-3, and May 8-11 from 4-7pm.  The class tuition of $1000 includes the Slingerland materials.

Graduate Level Extension Credit Available

This workshop is approved for 1 graduate level extension credit through University of San Diego. The credit is not part of a degree program. Additional fee is required for the credit. Enrollment for USD credit will be available by February 1, 2023. To be eligible for USD credit, you must attend all sessions. Clock Hours for WA State Participants

Approved for 12 clock hours through 247Ed -- register after the class ends. 

Slingerland® Short Classes focus on specific components of the comprehensive training. They provide practical tools for teachers, tutors, parents, and paraprofessionals working with children who need a multisensory approach to learning. Short classes do not include practicum.
