2023 Harvard Strabismus Symposium - Dean M. Cestari, MD and Gena Heidary, MD, PhD
2023 Neuro-Ophthalmology Fall Festival - Tais Estrela, MD and Joseph F. Rizzo III, MD
Join Harvard Ophthalmology, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Mass Eye and Ear this Fall for an engaging and unique, dual conference. This information-packed weekend is divided into two separate, but related topic areas and will feature Strabismus on Friday (Day 1) and on Neuro-ophthalmology on Saturday and Sunday (Days 2-3). Participants can choose to attend either or attend both for up to 20 hours of content over the three days. (CME approval pending)
Topics & Speakers
The 2023 Harvard Strabismus Symposium will feature unknown cases and discussions on techniques and advances in strabismus surgery, including decision-making and outcomes. There will also be didactic lectures by expert strabismus surgeons, including Gena Heidary, MD, PhD (Boston Children's Hospital), Linda Dagi, MD (Boston Children's Hospital), David G. Hunter, MD, PhD (Boston Children's Hospital), Dean Cestari, MD (Mass Eye and Ear), and this year’s guest of honor, Hilda Capo, MD (Bascom Palmer Eye Institute).
Focusing on common, complex, and important neuro-ophthalmology disorders, the 2023 Neuro-Ophthalmology Fall Festival will provide a complete overview of the latest diagnostic techniques, new medical therapies and surgical advances to improve clinical and surgical outcomes. The Fall Festival will also pay tribute to Shirley Wray, MD, the matriarch of Neuro-Ophthalmology who had served as Director of the Harvard Neuro-Ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear before then accepting a similar title at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where she retired earlier this year. Given Dr. Wray’s notoriety as a clinician and mentor, this Fall Festival also will recognize the accomplishments of a special group of women in their mid-careers who have made notable contributions to the field of Neuro-Ophthalmology. Our special guests include: Tatiana Bakaeva, MD, PhD (Brown University), Stefania Bianchi, MD (IRCCS Istituto Auxologico Italiano), Fiona Costello, MD (University of Calgary), Clare Fraser, MD (University of Sydney), Aubrey Gilbert, MD, PhD (Kaiser Permanente), Gena Heidary, MD, PhD (Harvard Medical School), Nailyn Rasool, MD (University of California, San Francisco).
Conference Format
Each of the three days will feature case-based methodology panels presenting interesting, unknown cases. All course faculty and attendees will be given the same preliminary case information as the panelists, which will enable each participant to compare their diagnostic skills to the experts. In addition to the interactive case panels, there will be round table discussions and didactic talks on current and innovative issues for each topic area. Past attendees have found the conference engaging, instructional, and fun!
