102 Spots Remaining

We cordially invite you to register for the second Uplifting Voices — a racial and social justice event.

Planned in collaboration with members of our Racial Equity Advocacy program and Education Minnesota staff, this event is designed to create an experience centered on challenging and disrupting systems of whiteness and white supremacy.

This year’s event will center on four core values — joy, healing, community, and strength.  In light of the collective trauma we have experienced since 2020, and especially throughout this academic year, we are honored and excited to share this space with you.

You may notice that this iteration of Uplifting Voice has a different vibe — and that’s intentional.  Based on feedback from our member planning team, we wanted to create unique opportunities for attendees to learn, engage, and connect through incredible dance and music performances, healing-centered experiences, community storytelling, and moments that help us reclaim the joy we so deeply deserve.

In addition to offering sessions centered on racial and social justice, this event will feature an exhibit hall showcasing BIPOC and other underrepresented-owned and operated businesses from around the state.

The event will also include a healing and decompression room — a space for reflection and processing whenever needed.  We are deeply grateful that Kamisha Johnson will be part of this space throughout the day, helping to support attendees in their healing and wellness journey.

An addition, lunch will be provided by DelSur Empanadas and Trickster Tacos food trucks.  In alignment with the values reflected throughout our exhibit hall, we intentionally partnered with food trucks owned and operated by underrepresented community members.  Each attendee will receive a lunch voucher redeemable for one complimentary meal at participating food trucks.

You belong. You are valued. You deserve a space like this.

Participation:
We are all at different points in this journey, and regardless of where someone may be, it is important that we lead with empathy, compassion, and kindness toward one another — and extend grace when needed.

If anyone experiences an “ouch” moment, several support resources will be available throughout the event, including the Healing Room, Presenters, and Education Minnesota staff, among others.  Aggressive, hostile, or intimidating behavior of any kind will not be tolerated, and individuals engaging in such behavior will be asked to leave immediately.

Our goal is for every attendee to feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to show up as their true and authentic selves.

Cost:
There is no cost for current Education Minnesota members to attend this event.

Event Maximum Capacity: 160 participants

Note: Once registration reaches maximum capacity, additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist and notified if a space becomes available.

Sessions:
Members may choose from a variety of offerings during the four scheduled session times: 9:30 a.m., 10:55 a.m., 1:20 p.m., and 2:45 p.m.  Please note that each session has a capacity limit, which may require selecting an alternate option if a session reaches capacity.  Members will also be expected to sign in for each session they attend.

Members may alternatively select an “Open Session” during any session block.  This option is intended to provide time to explore the Exhibit Hall, visit the Healing Room, or simply connect and build community with colleagues.

Note: Priority will be given to members who pre-registered for the session, as indicated on the back of each individual’s name tag.  If seats are still available just prior to the start of the session, you are welcome to join; however, if the session is at capacity and a registered attendee arrives, you may be asked to select a different session.

Meals:
A continental breakfast, along with a variety of snacks, and beverages will be provided throughout the day.  Attendees will also receive a meal voucher to use at either DelSur Empanadas or Trickster Tacos food trucks.

Note: Any additional items will be at the attendee’s own expense.

Hotel:
Current Education Minnesota members traveling 100+ miles from the event location, or those requiring special accommodation, may submit a request for one overnight hotel stay, pending approval.

To request lodging, please contact Elizabeth Pettersen at elizabeth.pettersen@edmn.org with “Uplifting Voices Hotel Request” on the subject line no later than the June 8 deadline.  All requests are subject to approval and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Cancellation Policy:
We understand that unforeseen circumstances may occasionally prevent you from attending as planned.  If this occurs, please contact Elizabeth Pettersen at elizabeth.pettersen@edmn.org with “Uplifting Voices Cancellation Notice” in the subject line.  Please be sure to include your full name and confirm that you are no longer able to attend the event.

Note: Timely notification of cancellations allows another member to attend the event and helps ensure fiscal responsibility with members’ dues by maintaining an accurate headcount for food and minimizing hotel costs associated with no-shows.

Questions/Contact:
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact
Elizabeth Pettersen at elizabeth.pettersen@edmn.org with “Uplifting Voices Questions” in the subject line.

We look forward to our time together on June 25.
