Shell Ceremony @ Papago Park
Join us for a Potluck Happy Hour & Shell Ceremony to send off spring pilgrims.
March 28, 2026  ·  Ramada #2
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM (MT)
Join us to celebrate Spring pilgrims and send them off with a special blessing that has been used through the ages.  Every 2026 pilgrim will receive a shell from our chapter, many have been brought back from Santiago by last year's pilgrims, to carry on your journey and be reminded of the support you have at home and the many who have walked before you - not only in recent years but over centuries. Your friends and family are welcome to attend as well.

Bring a dish to share if you are able at 4PM and we will start the Shell Ceremony at about 430 where a blessing will be bestowed on all outgoing pilgrims as part of an ancient tradition. Read more about it under the More Information Tab.

What is a Shell Ceremony?
During the Middle Ages pilgrims were blessed before setting off on their journey so they may seek truth, abandon old habits, and open themselves to new experiences. Following in this ancient tradition, the Valley of the Sun Chapter is pleased to confer a group blessing and token upon those who will be walking the Camino this year.

Bring a dish to share and help send off pilgrims with encouragement.

The Valley of the Sun Chapter has only one more 2026 Shell Ceremony scheduled for July 25 to accommodate pilgrims leaving later in the year.
