Full Moon @ South Mountain (3.5 miles)
Easy to Moderate 3.5 mile walk & Taco Tuesday option
September 17, 2024  ·  Phoenix, AZ
This is the same route as the hike on 9/21 but different start time and vibe!
Meet at 5:45PM @ Western Star Park
Start at 6:00PM
Taco Tuesdays at Los Taquitos for anyone interested after the hike. (4747 E. Elliott Rd #17 @ approximately 7:40PM)

Hike: 3.5 miles (3 miles Easy and .5 Moderate)
Hike leader: Tina Strickler 602.722.0612

There is something magical about a full moon walk and I can't resist a Supermoon even though the creepy crawly creatures may still be active this time of year. Please consider the possibility when registering for this walk.

We will walk on streets from Western Star Park to the Guadalupe Perimeter trail at South Mountain. We will do a short climb to watch the super moonrise from the saddle, then do a short section on Desert Classic trail and cut over to Guadalupe Perimeter Trail again before returning to Western Star Park.  It will be hard to see the heart rock section (bring heart rock to add to it if you like) by head lamp and if we are lucky we will hear some coyote and not see any rattlesnakes. Please pay attention to the What to Bring Section for this twilight and evening hike. Long pants are recommended for evening hikes and a flashlight or headlamp is required.

After the hike anyone interested can gather at Los Taquitos for Taco Tuesdays and conversation. All are welcome to meet us at Los Taquitos at 7:40ish - 4747 E Elliott Rd #17.

Guidelines

Please stay home if you are feeling sick.

Call or text your hike leader Tina 602.722.0612 if you are unable to make it or are running late.

No dogs allowed due to chapter liability.

We will share the trail with other hikers and mountain bikers so despite our engaging conversations we will be aware of our surroundings and courteous by stepping off the trail or walking single file when necessary.

Reminders: Our chapter activities are led by volunteers. Donativo contributions (cash only) are greatly appreciated and are used to support future activities. Look for the orange donativo jar by the signup at the beginning of each hike.

We always gather in the spirit of the Camino; therefore the hike leader will maintain awareness of the pace of the group, and will stop periodically at trail intersections to allow all participants to catch up. Hikers/walkers are differently abled and will not finish at the same time. There will be a sweep for larger groups and no hiker will be abandoned. Please review the trail description before signing up to be sure the hike is right for you and your abilities.
