Our excursion around Kyoto is a bespoke experience exclusively for Radiology International that you won’t find in any of the guidebooks. The tour takes in key neighborhoods such as Arashiyama and Higashiyama, some UNESCO world cultural heritage sites, and some of the hidden gems, as well as the must-see bucket-list features. There will be time to explore at leisure and shop before returning to the conference venue.
We will begin the day at an iconic location - the Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji Temple, one of 1,700 Buddhist temples in the city and is on UNESCO’s list of world cultural heritage sites. Next, we move on to a special arrangement just for Radiology International. Hōrin-ji Temple is a Shingon Buddhist temple in Arashiyama, to the west of the central city of Kyoto. The temple is said to date back to 713 AD. To Kyotoites, it is a place of pilgrimage to pray for the health, strength, and success of children and you will often see families dressed in the finest kimono paying homage to the temple. At Horinji, home of the Dendengu shrine, you will receive a special private blessing at the Temple Of Radio Waves.
You will have time to explore the surrounding area of Arashiyama at your leisure before lunch. You will be treated to a delicious Japanese Wagyu beef Shabushabu style lunch, where you cook at your own table. Wafer thin slices of meat are the perfect, social way to charge your energy reserves.
Next, your guide will lead you to the area of Higashiyama. Kiyomizu temple stands as a backdrop in an area where you can walk the stone paved streets, viewing traditional structures, shopping and treating yourself with local teas and snacks. Also here, in the heart of the famed Gion district, you will find Yasaka Shrine which plays host to the world famous Gion Festival and is a hub of activity during the cherry blossom season as thousands of people flock to the adjacent park for blossom viewing picnics and parties.
