We’ll begin our excursion with a walk from the majestic 15th century Ross Castle to Library Point, a limestone rock formation on the shores of Lough Leane. As we wander through enchanting woodland and along the paved paths that wind through the picturesque landscape, we’ll discover traces of the 4000-year-old copper mines that played a significant role in Ireland's Bronze Age. Along the way, our knowledgeable guide will regale you with fascinating tales and insights into the area's intriguing past.
After approximately 2.5 hours of exploration, the walk concludes at old Library Point pier, where a traditional boat awaits. We’ll board the boat for a delightful 20-minute journey across the serene waters of Lough Leane, taking in the surrounding scenery from a unique perspective.
Please note that the minimum group size is 11 passengers due to the boat's capacity. However, we can accommodate up to 33 participants by dividing into three separate groups. This allows for an intimate and personalized experience as you delve into the wonders of the Ross Castle Peninsula.
Activity Level: Moderate. The walk primarily takes place on paved ground, making it accessible to most people. However, it does involve walking for approximately 2.5 hours, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
What to Wear: We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes that provide good support. Additionally, it's advisable to dress in layers: A fleece or light jacket will help, especially during the boat transfer, where it can get chilly. Don't forget to bring a rain jacket in case of unexpected showers. Wearing a hat is also a good idea to protect yourself from the sun or to keep warm on cooler days.
