Kick-Off Meeting Description
The “Kick-Off” meeting is the first part of the CAR Leadership Program and will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the program, its goals, and expectations. Participants will enjoy three feature didactic lectures exploring why radiology needs strong leaders, building and leading effective teams, and a personal leadership story. In groups, participants will work through interactive case scenarios, facilitated by the leadership program faculty followed by a discussion panel. Several networking opportunities are interwoven, and all participants are invited to attend a Leadership Dinner.
Target Audience
Mid-career radiologists currently in or preparing for leadership roles in clinical, academic, or administrative settings.
Needs Assessment
The CAR Leadership Program was created to address CPD needs beyond clinical expertise. Input from radiology stakeholders across career stages, complemented by leadership experts, highlighted the demand for a Canadian-specific program. With similar initiatives established by U.S. and European bodies, the Working Group recommended starting with mid-career radiologists and expanding to broader audiences and leadership topics over time.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the “Kick-Off” meeting, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the structure, expectations, and learning goals of the radiology leadership program. (CanMEDS Roles: Leader, Scholar)
2. Explain the unique organizational, clinical, and technological factors that require strong leadership within radiology. (CanMEDS Roles: Leader, Health Advocate, Professional)
3. Apply principles of effective team building to enhance collaboration within radiology and interprofessional environments.(CanMEDS Roles: Leader, Collaborator, Communicator)
4. Evaluate leadership decisions and team dynamics by engaging in peer-based interactive scenarios. (CanMEDS Roles: Leader, Collaborator, Professional)
