Overview
This educational forum will explore emerging innovations in breast imaging that are transforming clinical practice. Through expert presentations, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the technical principles, clinical applications, and operational considerations of contrast-enhanced mammography, as well as its impact on multidisciplinary care pathways. In addition, the program will examine the opportunities and challenges of integrating artificial intelligence into breast imaging, equipping participants with the knowledge to critically assess AI tools and their potential role in clinical workflows.
Needs Assessment
The
program was developed following a review of learning gaps and informed by several
sources of evidence that captured both perceived and unperceived needs. These
data were collected from the CAR membership CPD survey and from the evaluations
of past educational events. Topics were further refined through consultation
with subject matter experts.
Target Audience
This
forum is designed for general and subspecialty radiologists with
an interest in breast imaging.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the
presentation Contrast-Enhanced Mammography: Impact on patient care in a
multidisciplinary breast center - Initial experience by Dr. Carolyn Flegg, delegates
will be able to:
- Describe the technical principles, indications, and diagnostic performance of contrast-enhanced mammography and breast MRI for cancer detection and characterization. (CanMeds Roles: Medical Expert)
- Analyze the operational and logistical considerations necessary for introducing CEM and evaluate its impact on departmental efficiency and patient throughput. (CanMeds Roles: Leader)
- Coordinate with medical oncology, surgery, and radiation oncology teams to streamline diagnostic-to-treatment pathways supported by CEM findings. (CanMeds Roles: Collaborator)
At the end of the
presentation Breast Imaging in the AI Era: Opportunities, Challenges, and
the Road Ahead by Dr. Viviane Freitas, delegates will be able to:
- Understand the clinical applications of artificial
intelligence (AI) tools in mammography. (CanMeds Roles: Medical Expert, Scholar)
- Recognize the potential challenges associated with
implementing AI in breast imaging practice. (CanMeds Roles: Leader, Health Advocate)
- Critically evaluate AI tools to determine their
suitability for integration into clinical practice. (CanMeds Roles: Medical Expert, Leader)
