Venture to the charming fishing port of Muggia, located on the banks of the Adriatic Sea and marked by its Venetian and Austrian history.
Lying on the eastern flank of the Gulf of Trieste in the northern Adriatic Sea, Muggia is the only Italian port town in Istria, the peninsula that is shared by 3 countries - Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy. The town's architecture is marked by its Venetian and Austrian history, and its harbor hosts a modern 500-berth marina for yachts. From Trieste city center, you will take a boat to the small town of Muggia. Here you will find the Bay of Muggia, the only Istrian town belonging to Italy. Docking at the picturesque harbor, you will experience the charming Venetian atmosphere. The dialect, the customs and the gastronomic traditions reveal a common past with the Serenissima Republic of Venice. Its origins date back to Roman times, evidenced by a fortified village and the ruins of a late medieval church. Looking at it from the sea, the white Istrian stones and the colorful houses create a harmonious whole with the green Karst environment. It is framed by seven kilometers of coast and a range of hills that dominate a wide area, both in Italy and in Istria.
