How many times have you received an email with a generic subject line that you've moved to your trash without opening? Admittedly, many of us are guilty of this.
Our library migrated to the Ex-Libris Alma library management system in the spring of 2019. The out of the box emails were edited during migration to include library information, and basic elements necessary to utilize the canned templates, but most of the generic wording was kept. The generic letter templates provide relevant data, but feel somewhat impersonal. Patron feedback indicated they weren't likely to read the emails and were missing key information.
In an effort to encourage patrons to read emails, and increase participation in events or services, librarians collaborated to reimagine automatically generated notices and letters with more personality, compassion, and utility for patrons to communicate with the library. This presentation will outline the various changes made, and will assess the effectiveness of marketing through library account notices, as well as the patron's likeliness to read or respond.
