The presenters conducted a survey of access services librarians at different types of academic libraries. This study sought to understand how access services librarians contribute to the profession. Specifically, they wanted to know about the scholarship and research productivity of access services librarians and how they affect tenure and promotion. This survey builds on research that found 98% of job advertisements for access services librarian positions required an MLS and research on keeping up with trends in access services. Input was sought from librarians whose positions require an MLS or equivalent who work in at least one of the following functional areas of access services: circulation, reserves, ILL, or stacks maintenance.
