Our public research university library planned for Fall 2020 understanding that COVID-19 and social unrest resulting from police actions across the country would impact library safety. The library was determined to implement best practices that incorporated university health and safety guidelines, and was committed to including student perspectives. A task force conducted 12 focus groups in June 2020, in which 56 students participated. In this poster presentation, we will share how the library made extensive changes to its facilities, access and services, and conduct policies while using the focus group responses to strengthen the library's commitment to enforcing health safety guidelines. Feedback also contributed to important decisions on monitoring compliance in ways that would be acceptable to patrons. This poster will benefit library leadership who are tasked with making tough and time-sensitive decisions, and how they can still incorporate evidence-based data from their critical stakeholders.
